What are the benefits of your titanium earrings?
All of our titanium earrings are made from commercially pure titanium. Titanium is a material of choice for both medical and dental implants due to its biocompatibility and high resistance to corrosion. For this reason our titanium earrings are a great choice for those who have experienced skin irritation from earrings in the past and are looking for a safer choice. An additional benefit of titanium is that it is a lightweight material making our earrings comfortable and easy to wear.
Of course, our earrings are nickel-free. Nickel is one of the most common contact allergens in the world and is a leading cause of irritation in healed pierced ears. Despite the high incidence of nickel allergy, nickel remains prevalent in jewellery manufacturing because it is low cost and easy to work with. Unfortunately, nickel use in widespread in jewellery at all price points, and as an alloy in precious and non-precious metals.
How is the titanium coloured?
Titanium’s natural finish is a neutral silvery-grey colour as seen in our earrings marked ‘natural finish’. Our coloured earrings have been anodised. The anodised finish is created via an electrical process which colours the titanium’s surface without the use of dyes. Anodising works by using an electrical current to increase the natural oxide layer on the surface of the titanium, different colours are achieved through microscopic changes to the thickness of the oxide layer.
